Commissioning Services Engineer Duties:

  • As the senior commissioning project engineer will be fully responsible for the planning and execution of all aspects of commissioning from the scoping and proposal stage through close out.
  • Lead others in the energy service group in providing commissioning services.
  • Lead the work that will be involved with automation and controls systems, HVAC systems, gas distribution systems, commercial refrigeration, fire alarm/life safety systems, and lighting and lighting controls.
  • Lead the commissioning project with your knowledge of the design of mechanical and electrical systems for commercial, institutional and light industrial facilities as they relate to energy conservation for commercial, industrial and institutional facilities.
  • Lead projects with your knowledge of building and energy codes as well as energy and commissioning standards.
  • Lead Cx meetings for design and construction teams and participate in LEED design and status meetings.
  • Perform the commissioning design reviews and work with design teams to ensure that their documents reflect the owners design and intentions.
  • Create the commissioning and M&V specifications, pre-functional and functional test procedures.
  • Review the shop drawings and submittals.
  • Be fully capable of witnessing functional tests, logging open items, preparing and presenting reports, and following up on open items lists.
  • Will be responsible for performing commissioning services engineering work for architects, real estate developers, communications companies, consumer products/retail facilities, country clubs, education facilities (K-12, universities), government/municipal buildings, financial services companies, health care facilities, and commercial buildings and structures.
  • Commissioning Services Engineer HVAC will work with the mechanical systems of buildings being commissioned, heating and cooling plants and their associated distribution systems.
  • Perform design reviews, writing functional test procedures, performing pre-functional and functional tests and writing reports.
  • Commissioning is the process of ensuring that building systems are designed, installed, functionally tested, and capable of being operated and maintained according to the owners operational needs.
  • Commissioning also can restore existing buildings to high productivity through renovation, upgrading and tune-up of existing systems.
  • Will be involved in all aspects of the building commissioning process, including project scheduling, roles and responsibilities of the project team, new building commissioning, retro and recommissioning of existing buildings, system by system commissioning requirements, TAB and verification procedures, the LEED rating system, building code issues, and commissioning tools and technologies.
  • Perform the HVAC Commissioning Process, the LEEDS Green Building Rating System that are both necessary and effective in ensuring that all systems included under the commissioning scope of work operate in accordance with the project documents and the stated design intent of the facility, and meet the States operational needs in the most reliable and economical manner obtainable.
  • Meet with the owner and the design team for purposes of establishing, in so far as it is known at the time, the proposed facilitys design intent and / or the basis of design.
  • Based upon the established design intent, draw up the preliminary commissioning plan for purposes of delineating all necessary steps in the proposed commissioning process, and for systematically identifying, documenting, reporting, and correcting deficiencies or issues that could prevent scoped systems from performing in accordance with the design intent.
  • The preliminary commissioning plan will detail the proposed commissioning activities by phases summarized in ASHRAEs 1-1996 commissioning guideline, which are as follows: Program Phase, Design Phase, Construction Phase, Acceptance Phase and PerforPost Acceptance Phase.

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Must have a Bachelors degree in Mechanical or Architectural Engineering from a four-year college or university.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) preferred.
  • CCP (Certified Commissioning Professional), CEM (Certified Energy Manager) or (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) LEED AP Preferred.
  • Minimum 8 years experience with the responsibility for the planning and execution of all aspects of commissioning from the scoping and proposal stage through close out.
  • Minimum 8 years experience having to lead others in an energy service group in providing commissioning services.
